Patients with essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD) who cannot maintain or restore a normal essential fatty acid pattern by oral intake. Indication: Indicated in patients needing intravenous nutrition to supply energy and essential fatty acids. Intralipid is also indicated in patients with essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD) who cannot maintain or restore a normal essential fatty acid pattern by oral intake. Paediatric indication for Intralipid 10% and 20%. Dosage: Premature and low birthweight neonates: 0.5-1 g/kg body wt/day followed by a successive increase by 0.5-1 g/kg body wt/day up to 2g/kg bw/day. Neonates and infants: 0.5-4 g TG/kg body wt/day.
